The Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) has outlined a cycling route network that spans nearly 50,000 miles throughout the U.S. We have chosen to follow the classic TransAmerica Trail/Bicycle Route 76, a 4,300-mile path across the country from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia. We have, however, decided to modify our starting point and begin cycling from Tillamook State Forest in Oregon. From Tillamook, we will ride to Cape Lookout State Park where we will officially join the TransAmerica Trail and ceremoniously dip our wheels in the Pacific Ocean.

ACA has divided the route into 12 maps that we will follow:

1. Astoria, OR to Coburg, OR (234 miles)

2. Coburg, OR to Baker City, OR (341 miles)

3. Baker City, OR to Missoula, MT (419 miles)

4. Missoula, MT to West Yellowstone, MT (330 miles)

5. West Yellowstone, MT to Rawlins, WY (350 miles)

6. Rawlins, WY to Pueblo, CO (387 miles)

7. Pueblo, CO to Alexander, KS (289 miles)

8. Alexander, KS to Girard, KS (331 miles)

9. Girard, KS to Murphysboro, IL (409 miles)

10. Murphysboro, IL to Berea, KY (396 miles)

11. Berea, KY to Christiansburg, VA (376 miles)

12. Christiansburg, VA to Yorktown, VA (367 miles)

Our goal is to average 60-72 miles per day and cross the country in 10-12 weeks. We have been working on planning our first 10 days and have been selecting a short, medium, and long distance to ride each day. This will allow us to acclimate to cycling with the weight of our gear and build up some endurance. We hope to visit some friends and family along the way. So, if you live on or near our route, please let us know as it would be great to see a few familiar faces!
