Day 36: Providence, RI to Sherman, CT

Stonington Point - Stonington, CT

After a restful nights sleep in a semi-real bad (air mattress), we loaded the car and as Chelsea prepared for another phone interview, Chad watched stage 12 of the Tour de France. The neighborhood we are staying in is an up and coming area in Providence. Many of the old Victorian homes are being updated and remodeled, and we found a cool coffee shop/deli to eat dinner at last night and to grab a coffee at this morning.

Within seconds of Chelsea’s interview ending, the Tour also wrapped up, which meant it was time to get on the road. After about an hour of driving, we passed into Connecticut and were ready for lunch. A quick google search revealed that an old lighthouse and beach was not far away in the coastal town of Stonington. It sounded like a perfect place to stop and eat.

As we drove into town, we passed amazing stone walls lining the edges of the properties and a downtown that looked like a quintessential 1700s New England main street. The lighthouse and beach were at the end of the main street at Stonington Point, and we ate lunch there with a panoramic view of the harbor. On a clear day, from this point, you can see all three nearby states: New York, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

After taking in the view, we headed to our destination for the night - Sherman, CT - to stay with Chads friends for the evening. They live in a really cool house on Squantz Pond, surrounded by the state park. After a dinner of bbq chicken on the grill, we took a stroll down to the lake. It was beautiful. Then we came back, made s’mores, and talked until well past Chads bedtime before calling it a night.
