Sightseeing in Portland Part 1

After a solid 15-hour night rest and one day exploring Portland, we’ve decided we’re not leaving. Just kidding...for now at least. Things we love so far: bike lanes/complete streets, laid back vibes, views of Mount Hood, PDX craftsman bungalows on every block, lack of traffic (on a Friday afternoon), and weirdness.

We spent the morning browsing Powell’s new, used and rare books, and could have spent all day there. Powell's is a mix between a bookstore and a library and has an overwhelming amount of books. We made a quick stop at U.S. Outdoors to get a couple camping essentials before making our way to Pioneer Square for lunch. As with most of the things we are doing in Portland, Pioneer Square was recommended by Sophia as a great place to have lunch and people watch.

One way we will cut down on the cost of food while on the road is to get ready-made food from grocery stores. To test this theory, we stopped at Safeway to get a few days worth of breakfasts (bagels and peanut butter) and a salad, fruit, and chicken strips for dinner. We succeeded at being super frugal and full and will continue to do this while we cross the country.

Finally, in the evening we made our way down the road to the beautiful neighborhood of Sellwood. The streets were lined with small eateries and it seemed very inviting (possible future place to live). While there, Seven Corners Cycles called and our bikes are ready to go! We will pick them up on Saturday morning.

Day one of what is going to be the adventure of a life time and something that most of us, including me, will never ever do. I am looking forward to following you on this amazing trip across this great country. I'm so proud of both of you. Be safe and always remember that we are all rooting for your success and your safe return home. I love you both and you will be in my thoughts and prayers every day.
