In early 2017, we began researching and purchasing gear for what we hoped would be a summer full of cycling and camping adventures. After our first short, overnight bikepacking trip on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail, we were hooked and set our sights on a week-long GAP adventure from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, MD and back. The trip was amazing and served as a practice run for longer tours to come.

Today, January 1, 2018, we officially begin documenting our plans to cycle across America. We hope our family and friends will follow as we ride from the Pacific coast in Oregon to Yorktown, VA, some 4,300 miles away. Our flights were booked this afternoon - we will fly from Pittsburgh, PA to Portland, OR on May 31, 2018. We plan on spending a few days exploring Portland before catching a bus to the coast and meeting up with the Adventure Cycling Association TransAmerica Trail. We will continue to post planning updates as we can and will keep a daily blog while on tour. Thanks again for reading!
